Summer is here, and our beloved trails are alive with floral beauty, and a myriad of insects. While we are out there soaking it all up, it is worth remembering that some of our creepy crawly friends present mild to moderate danger. Most bites or stings are not going to interrupt your run, but a few will cause discomfort if not treated correctly. Here is what you need to know about the many-legged friends who are just going about their daiy business while you enjoy your trail stoke.

On the 6th of February this year, a trail running story just about broke the internet. A runner in Colorado fought and killed an 80-pound mountain lion that attacked him on a nature trail in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, wildlife officials said.

Hosted by Wildrunner, the series is the only one of its kind in South Africa. A tough, pure mountain running series made up of three separate races; the Jonkershoek Mountain Challenge, (JMC), the Helderberg Mountain Challenge (HMC) and the Marloth Mountain Challenge (MMC). Each event consists of a Lite, Extreme and Ultra distance race. To complete the series, participants must compete in the same distance category at each race.

From 15 to 19 June this year, a small group of runners will tackle a 110km journey through the ancient arid mountainous landscape of the Richtersveld National Park, South Africa - a World Heritage site, and one of only 25 biodiversity hotspots in the World.
