At some point in the last 13 years, at one or more of the 307 trail running events & unique african running experiences Wildrunner has established during this time, you became part of our Wildrunner family.
What you may or may not know is that Wildrunner is a small family business, founded and run by partners Owen & Tamaryn Middleton. In the 13 years of pioneering trail running in Subsaharan Africa, we have been privileged to launch races in seven South African provinces with the Trail Series®, and have launched a number of ‘firsts’ both locally and further afield; South Africa’s first 3-day stage race along the Wild Coast, the first stage race in Lesotho in 2011, the first bushveld multi-day, multi-country trail running experience of it’s kind in the world in Mapungubwe, Southern Africa's only five-day, transfrontier, fully supported race ‘The Namibia Crossing’ in 2016 and the first dedicated trail running experience of it’s kind in Africa, seven days of remarkable Rwanda in 2019. We slotted in some pretty gnarly mountain challenge races in the Western Cape too!
Our insatiable desire & passion to unlock new & wild places to explore has been matched only by the passion & support of the magnificent people we have shared these experiences with. So many stories, so many laughs, so many tears. You are as much a part of our story as we are of yours. We could not have done what we have, without you.
Then along came a virus and shattered the very fabric of what we do. The gatherings ruling within the disaster management act has effectively turned the skin of the sports event industry inside out. It’s doubtful in fact, that it will ever return to ‘normal’. The only thing we are certain of right now is that there will be no events until the Coronavirus is contained and we clear alert level 1. How long that takes is anyone's guess right now.
What is certain in our minds is that we want Wildrunner to live on. In fact, it’s really all we know, trail running is part of our DNA. Yes, we will adapt and evolve, learn new tricks to stay alive, but right now we need your help to get through to the other side.
It’s tough to ask, but if you could, please consider making a donation to help keep us afloat during this uncertain and challenging time. Any donation, however small, will go a long way towards ensuring the survival of Wildrunner and our quest to deliver more firsts when this chaos has settled. Please see details on how you can contribute, below. Our Wildrunner family will be eternally grateful and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support, past and present.
