Are you seeking a 2019 escape that will quiet every stress element and shift your world view?
5 days, 200km, two African countries, one ancient mountainous wilderness. Welcome to the Namibia Crossing 2019; this is a Wildrun® Africa experience that will test you, and take you to places so far removed from the daily grind that you might never wish to return. Designed to evoke a sense of introspection and exploration, this foot race showcases truly diverse geology, ecology and environment.
From 16 to 22 June 2019, runners will journey from the crystal fields of Sendelingsdrif in South Africa to the infamous giant boulders of Tatasberg deep in the Ai-Ais-Richtersveld Transfrontier Park; this unparalleled journey then crosses the Orange River into Namibia and the wild lands of the Fish River Canyon. This is the running experience of a lifetime.
The Ai-Ais Richtersveld Reserve
Overlaying the Orange River border line between South Africa and Namibia is a 5 920km2 arid mountain desert wilderness unlike any other in the world. This area is a jointly managed conservation initiative called the Ai-Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier Park, which incorporates the Richtersveld National Park in South Africa and the Fish River Canyon National Park in Namibia.
What this area contains is an ancient geological and natural landscape that is quite simply unparalleled on Earth. Not only is this is the oldest mountain desert in the world, it’s the richest one - holding more than a third of the worlds known succulent species. In fact, it’s second only to the Cape Floral Kingdom in terms of botanical diversity.
Throw in the largest canyon in Africa and some uniquely desert-adapted African wildlife and you have yourself a wilderness running experience that is quite simply unmatched.
This solo running adventure is supported but requires each participant to carry basic nutritional and medical supplies on each of the 26 to 44km daily distances. GPS navigation is required, but map links are supplied. Comfortable tented camps will welcome weary runners each evening, to which luggage and sleeping equipment will be delivered. Sumptuous outdoor dining is provided by an innovative and creative team of experienced hosts.
