The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon Peace Trail Run is once again luring some of the top trail runners in South Africa and with less than two months to go, excitement is building to see who will claim the title this year. Confirmed entrants include two-time South African long distance trail running, Thabang Madiba, last year’s runner-up, Givemore Mudzinganyama, up-and-coming Capetonian, Michael Gombart and the evergreen Jacques Mouton and Mapepane Mahlangu.
With one of the biggest prize purses in South African trail running it’s no wonder the big names are lining up as the winner will get to walk away with R10,000 prize money. It’s safe to say the racing will be piping hot at the front of the field. Madiba comes fresh off a first place at his first ever stage race, the Richtersveld Wildrun™ and a strong performance at the World Long Distance Championships in Switzerland. Mudzinganyama, on the other hand, will be hoping to improve on his second place in 2014 while local boy, Gombart knows the route like the back of his hand and would be hoping to use this to his advantage.
“These are fast but technical routes, demanding the very best performances to get onto the podium. We are thrilled to already see some of the big names in South African trail running on the entry lists and expect more to follow suit in the coming months,” said Owen Middleton, Managing Director of Wildrunner, the organising company behind the Peace Trail runs.
This is only the second time the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon Peace Trail Runs will take place and it’s the perfect way to kick off a weekend Festival of running. Entries are available here and sure to sell out soon.
